Defunct straight out of the box

My mother purchased I think four of these for christmas and gave one to each of the boys in our family. I was excited because I am the one who is always getting stuck with my vehicles in one way or another. I plugged mine in the first time out of the box and the blue lcd light came on and showed 0%. I left it on the charger for a few more moments to see if the batteries came up from 0 at all and they still showed 0%. I gave it a quick check over to see I had everything connected correctly and then switched outlets. Bottom line is the dang thing never did charge up and has been an overpriced paperweight ever since. I needed a jump and called mom, and her husband showed up with his that he got that same Christmas, and it worked just fine. He told me it had held a charge for months and that it never gave him any problems. So, I know for sure mine was broken straight from the factory. I cannot get ahold of anyone from customer service, so this is why I am now posting a 1-star review. Maybe they will respond now. If not for anything other than principle, my mother deserves her money back. The unit I received was the DJS50.

This Actually Works Extremely Well

For the negative review one gentleman listed here; it most certainly DOES have enough power to start vehicles. My first use of it was on a small late model GM SUV with a 6 cylinder I'm guessing it was a 3.8L V6 but I'm not as up on that as I used to be. It most definitely was larger than the negative reviewer's Nissan Altima 4-banger.

I saw a gentleman standing out in the cold of a grocery store looking for someone to help. I figured this would be the PERFECT time to try out the jump box. It was in my trunk for at least 2 months after the initial charge. Ambient temperature outside was approximately 35 degrees or cooler. After myself and the gentleman needing assistance took a couple seconds to size up the proper procedure we hooked it up, I told him he had 30 seconds to start the car or we'd have to re-seat the clamps. Much to my surprise the car started up immediately. No problem. I think the negative review could have been a result of a poor connection on with the clamps (they ARE slightly stubby to be as portable as possible), or his battery was just incapable of holding any power, OR he waited longer than the 30 seconds from the time the clamps are put on to the battery to the time you have to turn the starter. I have to admit that threw me off at first too but the reasoning is pretty understandable. Small battery with likely massive capacitors. It just doesn't have enough battery to dilly dally while it's putting out full power, or heat concerns from such a small package, or both. I'll tell you what though this really impressed me.

Oh and after I jumped the car I was able to charge my cell phone twice, and a tablet up to about 90% just to see what it's capable of. The one confusing aspect is the DC Out port. It's mentioned in the instructions as having an output of 12V/6A. On this small model there's no cable that comes with it, nor is one mentioned anything in the instructions in regards to this port. It's just "there". I did find instructions to an older and slightly large jump box that had the same port. It appears it was for a laptop charging cable/adaptor kit that came with the larger one. I'm not sure this jump battery would have enough power to REALLY make a difference for a laptop. It would certainly keep it running for a while but if the laptop is dead and you're running solely off this little box you're probably only going to get an hour or two out of it. Also; old tech. Should have just been a USB port with a higher output than the two USB-A ports included.
NOT complaining. For the price this is a no brainer.

I have a Nissan Altima with a 4 cyl engine. At full charge this unit does not have the power to jump start the engine. Glad Instil had my old jumper cables.
